Red River Parish Communications District Receives Funding from EnCana Oil & Gas USA for Purchase of Emergency Management Equipment

COUSHATTA, La. – The Red River Communications District, which is currently developing a comprehensive E-911 emergency response system for the growing parish, recently received funding from EnCana Oil & Gas USA that will help increase efficiency by first responders in managing emergency situations.

The $7,500 grant from EnCana, a leading North American natural gas company with offices in Coushatta, will go toward the purchase of 225 new reflective road signs to be placed at intersections throughout the parish, as well as a new high performance printers for each of the Red River-area fire stations and ambulance stations.

The goal of these tools is to help first responders reach the site of emergencies as quickly as possible with accurate coordinates and street indicators, while also having access to hard copies of all details relating to the 911 call before arrival.

“The progress that has been made thus far by Red River Communications District is commendable, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to the development of this new emergency response system for the parish,” said Ron Stark, Group Lead, Louisiana Field Operations for EnCana’s Mid-Continent Business Unit.

The Red River Parish Communications District serves the entire Red River area, which includes approximately 9,700 citizens and thousands of additional visitors traveling through the parish at any given time. The organization, consisting of seven commissioners and an E-911 administrator and coordinator, are well underway in launching the E-911 emergency response system. To date, the Red River Communications District has assigned all structures a physical 911 address and plotted this information into a response database and mapping system. The new equipment, including printers and road signs, will tie into this database to provide Red River Parish with a truly enhanced and effective 911 service.

“We have been extremely fortunate to progress this far in such a short amount of time, and we want to be sure to finish this project on a strong note so that Red River Parish has the highest possible level of emergency response service,” said Daniel Simpson, Coordinator of the Red River Communications District. “We are very pleased with EnCana’s generous donation to our E-911 project, and the funding will most definitely help us achieve our goals.”

Over the past two years, the Red River Communications District has received funding support from a number of parish, state and federal sources such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), State of Louisiana and Town of Coushatta. These resources have been utilized for the purchase of renovation equipment, computers, GPS systems and other one-time equipment needs.
